Finally I have it together to put this event on which I am very excited to do. It will be a great evening of fun, food, fellowship and exercise. I have rented a room at a church and they requested no alcohol. I thought if ladies could bring a main dish and the guys a dessert that would be great. Doors open a 4:30 and supper is at 5:30. A line dance lesson will be about 7pm for about a half hour or so, and then we can begin the rest of the evening. You do not need a dance partner for this event. I know some can cha cha, two step etc but this is for free style dancers. Clean up is at 11pm as we need to have the room ready for a church service the next day. If you have a music CD that we can dance to, bring it along but please put your name on it, but hopefully we will be dancing to you talented karaoke singers.

SATURDAY — OCTOBER 23, 2010 — HIKE

Mount Yamnuska: East Shoulder….only to The Notch

Fitness Hike

When: Saturday, October 23

Elevation: 500 Meters. 2 hours of Good Cardio going up…1 hour down. 2 hours round-trip drive time. Total Time approximately 5 hours.

Difficulty: While difficult uphill hiking for 2 hours, there are many places to stop should you reach your personal maximum before we reach the top of the shoulder.

Distance: 8 km or so

Departure Time: 9AM from Westside Kings Church. We should be back to the church by 3PM.

Description: Rather than a full day of Hiking, this is more of Fitness Hike. Shorter in length and duration, it is an opportunity to get out in the mountains, which is good for the soul and get 2 hours of hard hiking in, which is good for your heart. Yamnuska is the first and most prominent mountain at the easternmost edge of the Front Ranges. Because of its easterly location and Southern Exposure it often escapes the snowy weather of Banff and Canmore, so should be free of snow. It is a great hike for the beginning or end of any hiking season. The weather forecast is clear and sunny, with a low of 1 Degree and a High of 10….so dress warmly. However, the sun should provide for a pleasant picnic on the flat rocks 2/3 of the way up. Note: We will not be summiting Yamnuska, doing any part of the back-side of the mountain, the scramble portion or the Scree run. Reminder: Bring necessary food, water and gear. If carpooling with someone, please contribute to gas $10-$15/person.

SATURDAY September 18 Paradise Valley – Larch Valley

DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: We will hike up paradise creek to Annette Lake. From there we will either go to the giant steps and then back to Sentinel Pass, or up and over sentinel pass to Larch Valley and continue on down through Larch Valley to Morraine Lake. This hike will probably take between 6 and 8 hours in total. The plan will be to leave a vehicle at Morraine Lake to take the drivers back to Paradise trail head to save walking back to the cars.
